Concept: Ex Nihilo (…..from Nothing)
…The term originally refers to God creating everything from nothing …in the beginning ….creatio ex nihilo…it is the great creation from the Void … Humans can be very creative, but we require materials from which to build something or creation arises from a source of mind and emotion. If original creation is called from emptiness is the creative act merely a reframing of the empty.
The “first law of science” states that matter (the stuff the universe is made of) cannot be created or destroyed. Matter can be converted from solid to liquid to gas to plasma and back again; atoms can be combined into molecules and split into their component parts; but matter cannot be created from nothing or completely destroyed
Ideas emerge and flow through the folding and unfolding of chaos into cosmos bringing a realised experience to our material being and the consciousness of embodied thoughts.
Who: Curators, galleries, conceptual or experimental art/ performance spaces and artists in all formats and media( – Please send cv, artists statement and recent images of work or media, website by email), .
What: This project will bring together a collective of artists to produce a series of individual works. The perceived works may take any form and exist in any media places in time and space. Through the making of the work the co-creators will co-operate on ideas to produce a joint work that interacts within the space of their joint working and ideas.
In sympathy with the theme and the nature of the work the space for presentation should also create a discourse with the ‘ex nihilo’ – the work is expected to exist outside the gallery context but would work within a global framework and either be presented at multi sites or/ and be multiplatform work of virtual existence.
It is expected that the nature of the co-creative aspect of production would also make the works co-curated and co-produced.
When: The selected group of makers will begin answering the discourse arising from the theme sharing a virtual multiplatform space of development. The individual works and the co-created work will be launched in the summer of 2012 and it is proposed that the work will exist as material exhibited works across several international sites as well as multimedia forms of presentation.
The work will develop in a participatory manner and we are asking for expressions of interest from the global cultural community.
Interested? Ideas? To begin a co-creative discussion ……
